Walsh Bay – Sydney, Australia

The residents of this state-of-the-art residential complex on the former Pier 6/7 in Walsh Bay benefit from several highlights at the same time. Not only do they enjoy the neighbourhood of the legendary Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, they also live in an award-winning showcase project overlooking the sparkling bay of Sydney.

At the end of the 19th century the harbour area was anything but a presentable neighbourhood of Sydney. Named after the engineer Henry Deane Walsh, today’s trendy neighbourhood was then marked by run-down harbour office buildings. Henry Dean Walsh was responsible for the first restructuring of the area into a wool trade harbour at the beginning of the 20th century. Only 100 years later the neighbourhood was again deserted. The former harbour area was only revived by a complete restructuring of the area into a modern living and entertainment district by the team of architects HPA from Sydney.

In building the new area, a lot of importance was placed on the recycling of existing construction materials and sustainable architecture. Commemorating history, the characteristics of the old architecture were heeded. The construction project forms the centre piece, involving the four long history-steeped piers that harbour under their roofs a theatre, museums, art exhibitions, and other urban conveniences. Pier 6/7 is dedicated to luxury living just above the water. 140 apartments sized 120 to 240 m² and 49 moorings for boats were constructed.

The interior decoration of the apartments is marked by the interplay of art and the sea. Modern art and high-quality materials mark the environment. The simple yet elegant kitchens subtly adjust to the environment, meeting the high demands of the residents with no less than five fittings by Miele.
